Ready for school? Support for parents admitting children to Reception
Transitioning to Primary School can feel very different for many children, even for those that have previously been with a day care provider.
Below are fact sheets, posters and links to websites from various early years support providers that can offer helpful advice for dressing, toilet training, sleep and social skills.
It is important you work with your child prior to them joining a Reception class, to help them do simple things for themselves such as:
- use the toilet
- wash their hands
- ask for help
- use a knife and fork and scrape their dinner plates
- put on clothes and shoes
- button or zip a coat etc.
as these are basic skills which your child will need to be able to do for themselves very quickly once they start.
