Dear Families & Owls,
Welcome back everyone. Here we are in Year 6!
We hope you had a wonderful break, are feeling refreshed and ready to go. We hope you are prepared for the challenges of the year but also looking forward to the fun we will have along the way. We are really looking forward to an exciting first term together!
Our first term begins with answering the enquiry question ‘Do borders keep us safe?’
Please keep an eye on Class Dojo as we cannot wait to show you all the things we are doing in class. (*You should have already received your login for our Class Dojo page, but if you haven’t, please contact the school office).
We would just like to give you a little information that you might find useful over the next few weeks:
a test each Friday. They will be given spellings on a weekly basis. Any additional work on the Y5/6 word list would also be useful. This is crucial for the writing assessments.
Meet the Teacher: This is the chance to meet your child’s class teacher, find out a little more about the year and ask any questions. This will take place on Friday 17th September, 3:00-3:15pm. Please go to the school office for 3:00 and you will be directed to the classroom.
Evacuee Day at Crich: Monday 4th October is the day of our trip. It’s been a while since we have been able to go on a trip and the children are really excited! The children are invited to come dressed as evacuees to enhance the whole experience! A letter will be coming out next week to give more information.
Theme Day – This year’s Theme Day will take place on Wednesday 26th November. Your child is welcome to come dressed up to reflect the World War Two focus of the day, otherwise please send your children in school uniform. On this day, you will be invited into school to share part of the day – more details will be shared closer to the date.
D.A.R.E. Over the next ten weeks, Owls will complete this valuable programme. The sessions are delivered weekly by a DARE Officer, alongside Mrs Flint. The children will bring their workbook home each week to complete a brief task. At the end of the course, the children will hold a Graduation Ceremony which you will be invited to. The Graduation is due to take place on the afternoon of Thursday 2nd December, further details will be shared closer to the time.
Finally, we would like to say again how much we are looking forward to the first term and we know that, together, we can ensure that your child has a happy and successful time.
