Dear Families & Ladybirds,
Welcome to Year 1! We hope that you have had a lovely summer holiday and are excited for the new year. It has been great getting to know the children over the past few days and we are certainly looking forward to the year ahead. Below is some information that you might find useful about some classroom routines and also what we will be learning about in the Autumn term.
Our first term begins with answering the enquiry question ‘Do things always change over time?’.
Please keep an eye on Class Dojo as we cannot wait to show you all of the things we are doing in class. (*You should have already be linked to our new Class Dojo page, but if you haven’t, please contact the school office).
We would just like to give you a little information that you might find useful over the next few weeks:
-P.E. – MONDAY – starting 6th September. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school on this day and that earrings are either removed or tape is provided.
-Reading – it is hugely beneficial for you to support your child with their reading and we do expect the children to read regularly at home. Please sign their reading diary and ensure your child has their reading book and diary with them each day at school. Reading books will be changed twice a week – so long as your child has read the book a few times (repeating reading a book supports their fluency of reading). Book change days will be on Mondays and Thursdays.
-Homework – there will be weekly maths and/or English homework set. This will be shared on Class Dojo. The homework task relates to what we have been doing in class and it will support your child’s progress for it to be completed.
-Spellings – the children will begin to have spellings to learn after the October half-term. More details will be shared via Dojo at the time.
Theme Day – This year’s Theme Day will take place on Wednesday 10th November. This will be linked to our history work on ‘Old Toys’. On this day, you will be invited into school to share part of the day – more details will be shared closer to the date.
Meet the Teacher – The Year 1 meeting will be held on Monday 20th September 3 – 3.15pm. This will be a chance to hear a little bit more about what will be happening in Year 1!
Finally, we would like to say again how much we are looking forward to the first term and we know that, together, we can ensure that your child has a happy and successful time.
