Dear Families and Hedgehogs,
We hope you have had a lovely Summer break and are as excited as us for the term ahead. Your child’s first term of school will be one full of excitement and joy!
The term will begin by investigating the enquiry question, ‘What do stories teach me?’
Please do keep an eye on Class Dojo, as we will frequently share what we are getting up to in school there, as well as any information we need to pass on. (If you have not yet managed to access Class Dojo, please contact the school office).
Meet the Teacher: This is the chance to meet your child’s class teacher, find out a little more about the year and ask any questions. This will take place on Friday 10th September, 3:00-3:15pm. Please go to the school office for 3:00 and you will be directed to the classroom.
Welly Wednesday provides an opportunity for the children to learn and play outside the classroom environment. Welly Wednesday will start in the third week of term, Wednesday 15th September. Please bring wellies for your child before this date. On this day your child will need to come to school wearing comfortable clothing which can get a bit mucky. All children will be provided with puddle suits to keep them dry and protect their clothing. If it is a cold day, they should bring a warm jumper as the puddle suits are not insulated and we will spend the morning outdoors. Children will be expected to get in and out of their puddle suits with some independence, so please support your child by encouraging them to dress independently at home.
PE will be on Fridays. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on this day.
As part of their homework, we expect children to do some reading every day. Please read to them, listening to stories is an invaluable experience! They will also be provided with a book from school. This may not have words, but please encourage your child to talk about the pictures and what is happening in the book.
Through Class Dojo we will also set weekly homework activities. These will start out as practical.
This term’s Theme Day will take place on Monday 4th October. Your child is welcome to come dressed up to reflect the Traditional Tale focus of the day, otherwise please send your children in school uniform. On this day, you will be invited into school to share part of the day – more details will be shared closer to the date.
